Background of Dasmarinas National Highschool

Sprawled in a 65,000 m2 land of the National Housing Authority is Dasmariñas National High School at Barangay Burol I Dasmariñas Bagong Bayan, Cavite. It was first named Dasmariñas Relocation Center High School (DRCHS) on June 1975 by virtue of Republic act 503. However the promulgation of article 71 has converted the situation’s name into Dasmariñas National High School. Now its academic programs are composed of a general high school curriculum, and a special science curriculum. Dasmariñas National High School has been established to cater the educational needs of the relocated families from Metro Manila and to mold the young people of Dasmariñas and its neighboring municipalities. Furthermore, it has expanded its services to the Dasmariñas community by putting up eight annexes within the vicinity. These extensions are presently moving towards their independence from the main school. As such, with the influx of subdivisions and low cost housing units Dasmariñas National High School continue to serve and to nurture the secondary educational needs of the fast growing urbanized Dasmariñas community and its neighboring towns. It will remain to uphold its mission in harnessing the youth’s potential so that they will meet the challenges of the new millennium. During the opening in 1975, it has an initial enrollment of 304 enrollees and 9 faculty members and 1 guidance counselor. With more than 30 years of existence, the enrollment has reached to almost 10,000, with more than 215 teachers in the main school alone. This is due to the influx of people patronizing the school. Mr. Rafael D. Reyes is the first principal of DRCHS, now DNHS. The school barely had 2 two-storey building donated by RP-US Bayanihan Friendship with 36 classrooms being used for instructions and offices. In 1976-1977, head teachers, school nurses and CAT commandant and more teachers added in the list. More buildings, school facilities and classrooms were added as the years go on, but due to the big increase in enrollment yearly, classrooms are not sufficient enough, so some teachers teach their students under the canopy trees. Due to rapid development and improvement of DNHS, at present, the school has 33 buildings namely: 15 academic buildings with 79 classrooms, 11 TLE/MAPEH buildings with 41 classrooms, 12 vocational workshop rooms, 1 science laboratory room, 3 computer laboratory rooms, 1 functional library, 1 functional school canteen with 1 annex canteen and a canteen kitchen, food service room, 1 two-storey Practice House building, 1 school covered court, 1 grandstand, 1 administration building, 1 medical &dental clinic, 1 guidance office, 1 record office, 1 ALS office, 1 PTA office, 1 TEC office, 1 SSG office, 1 Supply/Stock room, Silayan and Glimpse Office, Faculty office of every Department, 3 Guard House, comfort rooms for male and female students aside from the comfort room inside the selected classrooms. The grandstand and covered court serves as the activity area for P.E., games, and classroom activities of the M.A.P.E.H. Department. The school has big standard oval with 45 lanes, a basketball court, and volleyball court, Lawn Tennis court and Sepak Takraw. The school has complete lighting facilities for rooms since classes are held as early as 7:00 in the morning and as late as 5:00 in the afternoon. It is also served by the Dasmariñas Water District for its water supply and 1 functional water tank run by a electric motor, although water is not enough to supply abundantly all rooms and comfort rooms all we have to do is to think a possible solution to overcome this problem. Common comfort room for students are well maintained by 1 male utility worker paid by the PTA. Aside from the 5 school security guards, the PTA also provided and paid 3 security guards to look after the security of the students and the school during the day. One watchman on duty during the day also is being paid by the municipal government under LSB fund.
